Protoflow Saw Palmetto: How Much Is in Each Serving?
Protoflow saw palmetto is 84.5 mg in each 2-capsule serving, so one capsule holds about 42 mg. The CAMUS trial started at 320 mg of extract a day and went up to 960 mg, so the label line is roughly a quarter of the starting dose. That trial found no benefit at any dose, and nobody has tested Protoflow itself.

How much saw palmetto is in a Protoflow capsule?
One capsule holds about 42 mg, because the 84.5 mg on the panel is for a serving of 2 capsules (Protoflow bottle label).
The panel lists "Saw Palmetto (Fruit)" and nothing more. It does not say extract, powder or ratio. A 60-capsule bottle holds 30 servings, so the whole bottle carries 2,535 mg of saw palmetto fruit.
Saw palmetto sits near the bottom of the 14 lines. Hawthorn and epimedium are 250 mg each, three times as much.

How does 84.5 mg compare with the CAMUS doses?
It is about 26% of the lowest dose and under 9% of the highest.
CAMUS gave 369 men saw palmetto extract, starting at 320 mg a day and stepping to 640 and then 960 mg (Barry et al., JAMA 2011 (CAMUS)). The comparison is rough, because fruit and extract are not the same strength.

Would a higher dose make Protoflow work?
The trial says no. Symptoms fell 2.20 points on saw palmetto and 2.99 on placebo after 72 weeks (Barry et al., JAMA 2011 (CAMUS)).
Reviews of many trials also found little or no benefit (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto) (Tacklind et al., Cochrane 2012). Quadrupling the dose would not fix that.
The extra point is quieter: a low dose means any change you notice is unlikely to come from this line.

How many milligrams of saw palmetto are in the whole Protoflow bottle?
A bottle holds 30 servings of 84.5 mg, which is 2,535 mg of saw palmetto fruit across 30 days.
Would 4 capsules a day give the trial dose?
No, and the label says not to exceed 2 capsules a day. Four capsules would still be only 169 mg, and niacin would double to 150 mg (NIH ODS, Niacin).
Did CAMUS test the lowest dose long enough?
Each step ran 24 weeks or more, and the full trial lasted 72 weeks (Barry et al., JAMA 2011 (CAMUS)).
Does the saw palmetto line change PSA tests?
NIH says saw palmetto does not appear to affect PSA readings, but tell your doctor about every supplement before a PSA test (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto).
