How do BPH medicines differ?
Alpha blockers relax muscle. Finasteride works on prostate growth, and slowly.
Tamsulosin may cause dizziness or fainting when you stand up quickly (MedlinePlus, Tamsulosin). Finasteride may take at least 6 months to improve symptoms and can cause erection trouble and lower desire (MedlinePlus, Tamsulosin). It also lowers PSA, so tell your urologist (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet).
